About the Concert

Enjoy the recording of our Winter Virtual Concert from Hope Choir of Nations, hosted by Asylee Women Enterprise, and Friends. This unique concert took place on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 7:00 pm EST! This concert was presented by RICH in Music: Refugee-Immigrant Connection & Healing, Asylee Women Enterprise and The Benedictine Sisters of Baltimore, Emmanuel Monastery. The event featured singing and other music and dance offerings. It also included photos and insights from our special Fall project, creating beautifully decorated clay vessels and learning to share our stories.

Our Fall project involved exploring identity through clay vessel workshops with Teaching Artist Susan Tuberville, M.F.A., and storytelling workshops with Storyteller and Coach Jennifer Rudick Zunikoff.

Mission Statement

RICH in Music supports refugees, asylum seekers and other humanitarian migrants in the Baltimore area, by providing music therapy and other positive music experiences.

What We Do

Our organization offers music therapy services to eligible groups and individuals who are refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable immigrants. Music therapy can help refugees and other immigrants cope with life changes and trauma, reduce anxiety and depression, reduce feelings of isolation and provide other benefits.  Please make a referral or apply for services.

RICH in Music also co-facilitates Hope Choir of Nations, hosted by Asylee Women Enterprise. This is a community choir that helps newcomers to make connections with others while developing their voices and having fun. No application is required to participate in the choir, but please email us with your contact information for rehearsal updates. Please also contact us if you are interested in the choir performing at your organization or event!

Music Therapy

According to the American Association for Music Therapy, “Music Therapy is the clinical & evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.” https://www.musictherapy.org/

History:

RICH in Music began in 2017 by Amy Bliss Tenney, who received an Open Society Institute – Baltimore Community Fellowship. In this fellowship, Ms. Tenney developed a program to provide music therapy and other positive music experiences for refugees, asylees, asylum seekers, and other vulnerable immigrants. RICH in Music works with participants from various non-profit organizations in the Baltimore area that serve refugees and immigrants.
