We wanted to spotlight our amazing music therapy intern, Mallika Singh! She has been with us since summer 2020 and was an enormous part of the success of our December 5 winter concert. Mallika has about a month left with us before her internship ends, and we wanted to start celebrating her! See her bio below for some of the great things that she has been working on.
Mallika L. Singh is a French-Swiss immigrant living in Pittsburgh, PA. She speaks French and English and is learning Arabic to better help and build rapport with clients. She is currently completing a music therapy telehealth internship at RICH in Music: Refugee-Immigrant Connection & Healing and will graduate in May 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in science at Duquesne University. She works under music therapists Amy Bliss Tenney, J.D., MAMT, MT-BC, and Dr. Janelle Junkin, PhD, MT-BC. Mallika minored in psychology and philosophy, with a focused interest in neuroscience. She is also a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honors Society.
During her internship, Mallika has worked with children, adults, and elderly, in groups and individually, providing services within a community music therapy context. Working under Amy, Mallika has co-led weekly instrumental sessions where clients learned to play the ukulele and the piano, assisted in weekly music group sessions hosted by Asylee Women Enterprise (AWE), and co-led monthly music therapy group sessions with Holocaust Survivors.
Mallika enjoys making music with her many instruments, composing soundscapes, writing, and traveling, in her spare time. ...
Thank you, Mallika! You’ve been such a wonderful asset to RICH in Music:! ❤️
